Traumatic experiences can have lasting emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual
effects. Trauma may result from experiences such as abuse, childhood neglect, sudden
loss, violence, accidents, or other events that leave you feeling unsafe, overwhelmed, or
deeply affected.
Even after an experience has passed, you may continue to feel fearful, tense,
disconnected, easily overwhelmed, or constantly on alert. You may avoid certain people,
places, memories, or situations, or find it difficult to feel safe and at ease.
At ICC, trauma therapy provides a safe and supportive environment to explore how past
experiences may be affecting your life today.
Counseling can help you better understand your responses, strengthen healthy ways of
coping, and work toward greater emotional stability, connection, and a renewed sense of
safety. Your therapist will work collaboratively with you while respecting your individual
experiences, readiness, and goals throughout the counseling process.
When desired, faith and spiritual perspectives may also be incorporated thoughtfully and
at a pace that respects your beliefs and comfort level.
You don’t have to have everything figured out to begin. Sometimes the first step is simply having a conversation.
